  2. North Africa • Allies attack here first – thinking this is a weak spot for Germans • Dwight D. Eisenhower leads American troops against Rommel, Ger General • British & US troops surround & surprise Ger • Ger surrenders in May 1943

  3. Stalingrad, USSR • Aug 1942: Luftwaffe bombs city & destroy it • Russians do NOT surrender!

  4. Russians attack back, surround city & cut off Ger supplies • 90,000 / 330,000 Ger troops survive & surrender! • Ger will not win in Russia again

  5. Italy • July 1943: Allies attack Sic lily (Italian island) • Just 5 days later, the King of Italy fires Mussolini & puts him in prison!

  6. Although fighting will continue in Italy until 1945, this marks the beginning of the end of fascist rule
