Unlike Private Equity, the purpose of Venture Capital is typically not to invest and take a controlling stake in established companies or business models but to provide seed or early stage funding for start up Ventures.  • In addition to the financial support provided, investors often also provide support in the form of commercial and business expertise to aid the progress of the companies in which they invest. • Sources of venture capital investment can be varied but a significant proportion comes from institutional investors such as pension funds, insurance companies and family offices.
