Clinton’s Accomplishments • ECONOMIC • Decreased budget deficit • Increased government surplus • Created jobs / lowest unemployment rate in decades • Lowest poverty rate since 1979 • SOCIAL • Lowest number of people on welfare in decades • Improved access to health care • Lowest crime rates in 25 years

Impeachment of Clinton • In 1998, the House of Reps impeaches the President on the charge of perjury when he lies about the nature of his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern. • TheSenate does not convict Clinton I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.

  7. War on Terrorism • Declared by President George W. Bush after September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, an international war aimed at finding and defeating every terrorist organization in the world, which began with U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

  8. Iraq Conflict 2003-2010 • On the assumption that Saddam Hussein and his regime were amassing weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), the United States invaded Iraq in 2003. • After toppling Hussein’s government, sectarian violence kept American troops in the region until 2010.
