  2. Table of Contents

  3. Hadean Era • During this period of time the oceans were replaced with liquid rock and molten lava! There’s always volcanoes blasting off and never ending asteroid impacts! www.novacelestia.com

  4. Hadean Life • During this era, there is nothing in the form of plant and animal life. • We will be the only living things around, on the entire Earth! www.earth.rochester.edu

  5. Hadean Atmosphere • The air is hot, thick, steamy, and full of dust and other particles. But you can't breathe it anyway--its made of nothing but carbon dioxide and water vapor, with only traces of nitrogen!* www.palaeos.com *We supply space suites with oxygen tanks

  6. Just So You Know… • The Hadean era got its name from the god of the underworld because it looked like Hades’ realm. • The Hadean era ended when our earth became solid. www.fas.org End of Hadean

  7. Archaean Era • In this Era the Earth has cooled down and oceans have formed over the entire earth. Volcanoes form small chains of islands peaking out over the ocean. www.cotf.edu

  8. Archaean Climate • Clouds and rain filled the sky, so don’t forget your umbrellas. • Meteorites and asteroids don’t hit as often, so no need to worry about that. www.associatedcontent.com

  9. Archaean Atmosphere • Water vapor has condensed into oceans by this era. • Carbon dioxide transformed into limestone deposits in the bottom of the ocean. • The air is now mostly filled with nitrogen, like ours is today.* www.dailygalaxy.com *We will provide space suites and oxygen masks for this era too.

  10. Archaean Life • Life is starting to evolve during this era. • Single celled blue green algae can be found floating around in the ocean. • We will, however, still be the only living things on land. universe-review.ca

  11. Just So You Know… • This period is when the oldest rock that we have on earth presently where formed. • There is still many erupting volcanoes due to the earth’s molten center. www.fas.org End of Archaean

  12. By this time, the Earth consists of two supercontinents with some islands still hanging around. Earth’s center has cooled, so there are less volcanoes erupting in this era. Proterozoic Era www.cotf.edu

  13. During this era, Earth is very cold, so don’t forget to bring your parkas! Glacial ice sheets cover the supercontinents that have formed, even across the equator. Proterozoic Climate geoinfo.amu.edu.pl

  14. Proterozoic Atmosphere • The atmosphere is still mostly nitrogen, with wisps of water vapor and carbon dioxide.* • Though, now, oxygen is starting to appear! It’s not enough for us to breath during our visits, but it’s there. The algae has been releasing for two billion years, but for the most part, it has been combining with other elements and forming mineral deposits. academic.emporia.edu *We will provide oxygen masks

  15. During this time, life is starting to grow and evolve. All life is still in the ocean, however. Now, real single-celled organisms have arrived. They have a nucleus and everything! And even soft, multi-celled are starting to come into appear. Proterozoic Life records.viu.ca

  16. Just So You Know… • During this era, the continents moved much more swiftly than they do today. • The magma in Earth’s center was closer to the surface, so hot spots were hotter than they are today.* sjhsearthscience.blogspot.com *We will provide thick-soled shoes to protect your feet. End of Proterozoic

  17. Paleozoic Era • Earths interior has cooled down by now and there is even more and there is less volcanic activity. • Two super continents still rule the earth. www.freewebz.com

  18. Paleozoic Climate • The climate warmed up during this time and became tropical so that organisms were able to thrive. • This would be a great place to come and enjoy your time. www.palaeos.com

  19. Paleozoic Atmosphere • The atmosphere is about 80% nitrogen and around 20% oxygen. So on this excursion you will not need any special suits. • There is still small amounts of carbon dioxide water vapor and other gases present. geoinfo.amu.edu.pl

  20. Paleozoic Life • This is the era when animal and plant life started to evolve. • First it was only in the oceans then land plants appeared. Eventually arthropods developed. • Last but not least the amphibians and reptiles appeared. www.winona.edu

  21. Just So You Know… • In this period there was several mass extinctions. In one of them 95% of all life died out. We will be sure to avoid these times. • The Paleozoic period is referred to as the “Age of Invertebrates” because of the animals that occupied it. www.bibleandscience.com End of Paleozoic

  22. Mesozoic Era • The Mesozoic Era consisted of volcanoes erupting and one super huge continent called “Pangaea.” This would probably be the most exciting time to take a trip. commons.wikimedia.org

  23. Mesozoic Climate • The climate is so nice and warm and there are no ice caps-- even on the poles! The ferns grow rapidly due to moisture and rain so everything is huge. geography.berkeley.edu

  24. Mesozoic Atmosphere • Because the atmosphere was so warm, natural global warming happened because of all the carbon dioxide that went into the atmosphere. • The warmth makes this perfect swimming time, so make sure to bring a bathing suite. www.boscobel.k12

  25. Mesozoic Life • The life in the Mesozoic was tremendous; all the life forms were amazing. • All the kinds of dinosaurs and birds ruled the earth. • Mammals also evolved during this time. brobee.wordpress.com www.dvd.net

  26. Just So You Know… • In the Mesozoic there was life forms that weighed up to 40 tons! • All of the Dinosaurs died out and there is many possible ways this could of happened; though it was most likely asteroids. yepyep.gibbs12.com hugemistakes.com End of Mesozoic

  27. During this time, the super continent, Pangaea, broke up and the continents and oceans formed as we know them today. Cenozoic Era www.cotf.edu

  28. During this time, the climate started getting colder. Because of the colder climate, Antarctica, North America, and Eurasia have seen the return of glaciers and ice caps. Cenozoic Climate www.boscobel.k12.wi.us

  29. The atmosphere during this time was pretty much the same as ours is today. Maybe some gases grew or shrank by one thousandth of a percent, but we will be able to comfortably breathe here. Cenozoic Atmosphere www.nature-blog.com

  30. In this era, mammals are thriving. After the extinction of the dinos, mammals came to dominate the planet. Mammals started out pretty small, even mouse-like, but throughout the era, the grew and evolved into the animals we know today. About only two million years ago, humans started to appear. And in no time at all, we grew and spread, taking over the planet. Cenozoic Life www.handprint.com www.pps.org

  31. There were mass extinctions during this era as well, but not as many, and they weren’t as severe. Again, we will be sure to avoid the causes of these extinctions. This era only makes up 10% of Earth’s history. Just So You Know… www.paleocene.com End of Cenozoic animals.howstuffworks.com

  32. End • Call our offices from 9a.m. to 9p.m. to reserve your seat on our next trip today • We’ll see you here!
