Overview of IMCP Designation • Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP) is a federal initiative to strengthen the manufacturing sector’s global competitive advantage. • IMCP designation is provided for two years, as of June 23, 2014. • Chicago Metro Metal Consortium is one of 12 “Manufacturing Communities ” in the country. • Receive preferential treatment and consideration when competing for $1.3 billion in economic development funds from IMCP Aligned Federal Agencies. • Get a dedicated Federal Point of Contact to help us access federal funding. • Opportunity to implement a cluster-based economic development strategy focused on metals. • Proactively identify and pursue funding to support our efforts. • Successful leveraging of designation will require full support and active participation of all Consortium members. • Opportunity will be whatever we make of it.

Steering Committee • Identify and leverage resources to maximize support for Manufacturing Community (MC) designation. • Composed of Steering Sub-Committees Chairs. • Develop governing structure and bylaws. • Approve Consortium Designation for funding proposals. Cook County Bureau of Economic Development • Convene meetings of Consortium • Attend all meetings • Serve as convener/facilitator of Consortium. • Provide coordination and project management for Consortium. • Overall planning and strategy alignment of pillars. • Seek resources in support of long-term management and implementation of effort. • Provide grant writing support. • Develop tiered system for outcomes evaluations with UICUD.
2 3 1 Proposed Role and Responsibilities Meeting Frequency Items for Further Discussion Sub-Committees • What additional staffing resources can Consortium Members provide? • Are there additional resources that can be leveraged in support of pillars? • Should sub-committee be prepared to present draft process, timeline and structure at next Consortium meeting (September 10)? • Meetings to be convened and facilitated by co-chairs • Meeting schedule and frequency to be established by co-chairs • Provide strategic framework for pillar. • Assess proposal plans, refine strategy, and develop integrated approach to maximize pillars impact on manufacturing sector. • Identify additional partners. • Track and align Federal, State and Local funding opportunities in support of pillar. • Provide grant writing staffing and support for funding applications. • Identify and lead policy initiatives. • Develop a plan of action, track implementation of deliverables and report recommendations to steering committee.
