Objectives • Honor and Remember the American Soldier • Preserve the Tradition of playing Taps. The most recognizable musical symbol of final Military Honor in America • Provide a Common Bond for veterans and their families during Military Burial Services • Foster a new generation of buglers. • Establish a World Record for the number of buglers playing Taps - in an echo format - between two points
Date & Route • May 21, 2005 • Start @ Woodlawn National Cemetery – Elmira NY • Secondary roads • Routes 352 and 415 • Through the heart of the communities • End @ Bath National Cemetery – Bath NY • 41 mile distance • Currently have enough buglers to cover 25 miles Bath VA National Cemetery Bath, NY Savona Campbell Coopers Woodlawn National Cemetery Elmira, NY Painted Post Big Flats Riverside Corning
Why ? • 1,800+ veterans passing away everyday • Military Honors are not provided to most veterans • Taps should be played by a live bugler • Raise Awareness for the need for buglers • Provide a better understand of the significance of TAPS and the importance of these simple but solemn musical notes to our veterans and their family members • Foster anew generation of buglers to playing Taps
When? Saturday May 21, 2005
About the Attempt • Approximately 800 buglers will line the roadways between Elmira and Bath • Bugler #1 at the Woodlawn National Cemetery will play Taps • Bugler #2 within hearing distance will follow by playing Taps • Buglers 3, 4, 5….. will follow. The playing of Taps will cascade through the communities toward the Bath VA National Cemetery • Total distance covered will be 41 miles
How? • Organizations • Schools, community bands, and drum & bugle corps will be asked to cover a distance of 1 mile • Each mile will require a minimum of 10 players. Players can be students, faculty, family, friend • Individuals • Anyone who wishes to play Currently 22 miles pledged

Schedule of Events • May 20 - Banquet at Wings of Eagles (Tickets sold at minimal cost) 7:00 pm Dinner, Guest Speaker, and Music • May 21 – EchoTaps (Tentative Times) 6:00 am - Begin arrival – Bath location TBA 10:30 am - State level ceremony at Woodlawn National Cemetery 11:00 am - 1st bugler plays Taps 11:10 am - Guinness chase vehicle 12:30 pm - Federal level ceremony at Bath National Cemetery 12:50 pm - Presentation of custom bugle to Bath National Cemetery Museum 12:55 pm - Mass playing of Taps 3:00 pm – Buses depart for Bath-Haverling High School

MISSION To deploy members of the 65th Brigade, New York Guard to Chemung and Steuben Counties to support and execute Echo Taps. 65TH Brigade Annual Training Briefing
INTENT To employ all 65th Brigade soldiers available in a joint realistic, rewarding exercise that tests the 65th brigade’s Command and Control organizations (TOCs) and employs units in all functional areas assigned. 65TH Brigade Annual Training Briefing
CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS This Brigade will execute Annual Training in four (4) phases: Phase I is the Preparation Phase. Phase II is deployment and occupation. Phase III is the execution. Phase IV is recovery. 65TH Brigade Annual Training Briefing

Phase IV Recovery • Soldiers within their assigned sectors will sweep the area and account for all personnel and equipment. • Bus commanders will begin to load buses upon completion of the playing of taps within their sector. • They will conduct an accountability check and depart back to point of origin. 65TH Brigade Annual Training Briefing
SERVICE SUPPORT • Direct support is provided internally for all classes of supply with re-supply conducted on an emergency basis only. • Brigade supply sergeant will establish a supply room with push packages of rations and training supplies. • Requests must be transmitted on a NYG Form 800 and approved by the brigade S4. 65TH Brigade Annual Training Briefing

FAQ • Who can participate? • Anyone, either as a volunteer or bugler • Will the buglers be on any highway (I-86 / Rt 17)? • No. The line of buglers will be off the pavement along secondary roads and community streets. (Routes 352 and 415) • What is the path to be traveled? • The line will go through Elmira, Big Flats, Corning, Painted Post, Coopers, Campbell, Savona, and end in Bath
FAQ • What is the distance between each bugler? • Maximum 1/10 mile. This may vary depending on the strength of the player and the surrounding conditions (city vs country) • Will there be any charge? • There will be no cost to participate in the event. • Minimal charge to purchase ticket to May 20th banquet • How long will it take to complete playing of Taps • 60 to 90 minutes
