Office of Resource Development • Includes both Development (giving) and Alumni Relations (reunions, events, etc.) • Staff members of the Rice Development Office are responsible for obtaining gifts and grants from alumni, corporations, foundations, and other university friends and supporters to further the academic and research goals of Rice University.

3. The Centennial Campaign • Currently in the “silent” phase of a $1 billion campaign—overall themes emerged from President Leebron’s “Vision for the Second Century.” • Deans identified campaign priorities for their schools (see additional documents). • Public launch is November 6, 2008. • Have raised $480 million since campaign began July 1, 2005. • Last year was Rice’s best fundraising year ever: $167 million.

4. School-Based Development Officers • Work to help fund their respective dean’s priorities to achieve campaign goals • Prospect base comprises Rice alumni with the ability to give $50,000+ • Match prospects/alumni with their areas of interest • Provide other Resource Development officers with information about the school and its research to engage prospects

6. Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations • Mission To support the academic and research goals of Rice University by helping to secure support from philanthropic foundations, corporations and corporate foundations. • Website: www.rice.edu/ocfr

Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations • Manages Rice University’s relationships with foundations and corporations. • Newly formed Corporate Council co-chaired by Jim Coleman, Vice Provost for Research and Marybeth Savicki, Associate Director, Corporate Relations • Secures foundation and corporate funding for major campus priorities in collaboration with the president, provost, and deans. • Secures foundation and corporate funding for major research and academic initiatives as defined by deans and faculty members.

Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations • Identifies and cultivates new foundation and corporate donors. • Ensures that all foundation and corporate donors are well stewarded. • Maintains institutional records on foundations and corporations, including information on current and past grants.

Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations • If pure gift funding (award is irrevocable, no specific period of performance) only development/OCFR is involved. • If “grant” (has specific requirements or terms such as: return of unexpended funds, specified period of performance, interim and final technical reports, addresses intellectual property) OCFR works closely with the Office of Sponsored Research and the Office of Research and Cost Accounting • Inform OCFR about activity relating to a private foundation or corporation. • OCFR will work with faculty member, as necessary, to provide background on foundation/corporation, read and/or edit material, help with site visits. • OCFR will let OSR know of contact. If little or no help is required of OCFR, faculty member should work directly through OSR. • If “grant,” OSR will require review and approval form, budget, budget justification and project summary (must be routed through chair and dean first; OSR needs five days before deadline). • Once awarded, checks should come to OCFR for processing (Elizabeth Castillo at x4637 handles). OCFR will issue interim report reminders; final reminders come from both OCFR and OSR.
