THE TRUTH ABOUT LYING. ACTS 5:1-11. I. Lying attacks God. “thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God” ( v.4 ) God is the knower of all truth (I Jn. 3:20) God is truth (Ti. 1:2; Heb. 6:18; Pr. 6:16-19) God wants his children to walk in truth (Eph. 5:1; III Jn. 1:4). II. Lying endorses Satan.

  2. I. Lying attacks God • “thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God” (v.4) • God is the knower of all truth (I Jn. 3:20) • God is truth (Ti. 1:2; Heb. 6:18; Pr. 6:16-19) • God wants his children to walk in truth (Eph. 5:1; III Jn. 1:4)

  3. II. Lying endorses Satan • “why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie?” (v.3) • Satan is the father of all lies (Jn. 8:44) • Satan has been telling lies since the beginning (Gen. 3) • Satan tempts us to lie, so that we’ll be his children (Ac. 13:10)

  4. III. Lying is cancerous • “agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord” (v.9) • Others become entangled in it too (Eph. 4:25) • Habit-forming (II Ki. 5:20-27; Ti. 1:12) • Leads to other sins — ”Gateway sin” (Mt. 26:69-75)

  5. IV. Lying leads to death • Ananias & Sapphira fell down and gave up the ghost (v.5, 10) • Lying separates us from God (Is. 59:2-3) • The punishment for lying is inescapable (Pr. 19:5) • A lake of fire awaits all liars (Rev. 21:8)

  6. V. Truth always prevails • Peter exposed the lie of Ananias & Sapphira (v.3-4, 8-9) • Truth stands the test of time (Pr. 12:19) • All lies will eventually be exposed (Lk. 12:2-3) • Honesty is the best policy (Eph. 4:15)

  7. THE PLAN OF SALVATION • HEAR THE WORD (RM. 10:17) • BELIEVE THE WORD (JN. 8:24) • REPENT OF SINS (AC. 17:30) • CONFESS FAITH (MT. 10:32) • BAPTISM IN WATER (AC. 2:38) • REMAIN FAITHFUL (REV. 2:10) • ERRING CHRISTIAN: REPENT & PRAY GOD (AC. 8:22)
