Thank you Thank you for viewing this presentation. Its purpose is to demonstrate that, with the help of technology, it is now possible to give students written, personalized authentic feedback… to supplement invaluable face-to-face authentic feedback. It is possible to record the process of assessment-for learning. History + tech stuff
History + tech stuff The screenshots + description in this demo come from a system in daily use inside a high school math classroom in Portland, Oregon, USA. It has been developed and used, and used and developed, over a period of four years. It has gone through many transformations, some more ambitious than presented here though less practical in their use, but always used inside a classroom. It has been exposed to students and to their parents/adult supporters. Anonymous student surveys over four years + feedback from parents have welcomed an approach that is trying to emphasize learning, not alpha-numeric grades. It will continue to be developed. Like all students, this student/teacher would appreciate constructive feedback on how to move forward. Join the discussion at the PiFactory blog, where you will also find more detailed descriptions about the how and why of assessment for learning. Tech stuff: TARGETmath has been developed using Filemaker Pro Advanced v9 on a Mac. Experiments are ongoing to reproduce the database and its functionality in open source using PHP.
