Objective: SWBAT Evaluate the effectiveness of Spiegelman’s use formatting and flashbacks medium by examining how such tools impact the reader’s understanding of Art and Vladek’s relationship. 9 June English I Honors Do Now: Which is the most reasonable explanation for Art including the following detail, “‘each day I marched to work and hoped again I’ll see Manice... She could have news of Anja.’ ‘I just read about the camp orchestra that played as you marched at the gate…’ ‘An orchestra? No I remember only marching, not any orchestras… From the gate guards took us over over to the workshop. How could there be an orchestra?’ ‘I dunno, but it’s very well documented…’ ‘No. At the gate there were only guards shouting’” (Spiegelman 54) A. To illustrate Art and Vladek’s constant bickering. B. To prove that an account of an orchestra is ludacris. C. To illustrate that Art has performed outside research for this graphic novel. D. To show the lapses in Vladek’s memory due to his fear of the guards.

Compare Vladek’s experiences to those of Elie. HW: Bring best “Do Now” from the MAUS series to be collected tomorrow and Vocabulary Workshop Text.
