46. 5. ‘The Ten Commandments are out of date for today’s society.’ (12 marks) Thirdly, someone might disagree with this statement because there are many situations where one might need to break the commandment, ‘do not steal’, for example, if they need to feed their starving family and have no money.On the other hand, stealing from shops will cause the shopkeepers to lose out on money.This will lead to them increasing their food prices to make up for the money they lost out on through the theft. This in turn will lead to more people not being able to feed their families. There are also alternatives to stealing, such as applying for loans or benefits.Thus, although it is very distressing for the one family contemplating stealing food to feed their family, there are other alternatives which involve everyone winning. Therefore, the Ten Commandments are not out of date in today’s society since they can encourage us to always find an alternative which benefit everyone.
