  5. Literal Meaning • Legendary bird which according to one account lived 500 years. Burned itself to ashes on a prye, and rose alive from the ashes to live another period.

  6. Symbolism • The phoenix represents fire and re-birth. All the firemen burn books and all the text references have to do with fire. Montag is being re-born by going against the society and starts to read books. The society is also being re-born by having the laws of not being able to read books but the citizens are sneaking around and reading books . Soon maybe the citizens may rebel against the law.
