  6. conclusion All these characters want to go to Canterbury. The host will be their guide. If they come back, they will return to his tavern and celebrate. The host says that if they do not survive the journey, they can have his head. The Summoneris a layman. His rank is 31st in Chaucer’s time, and it’s the same today. The Pardoner is a part of the church’s choir. His rank is the 33rdand it would also stay the same today. Our last character is the Host. In the story he is an innkeeper, but he would be a businessman in our time. He was ranked as the 34th in the story, but he would be in upper/upper-middle class man nowadays.
