What you need for class: • You need to have these materials ready for class EVERYDAY: • Pencil • One composition notebook, or sketchbook if you prefer (cost = $1) • We will draw and write in the notebook • Your notes/classwork/artwork which will be kept in the classroom in your Art Folder
Class Rules: • Always bring materials to class • I will have random daily grades • Don’t talk without permission • Don’t leave your seat without permission • No throwing, damaging, or using materials in an irresponsible manner • Stay on task
Things to remember: • Off limits: • Teacher’s desk • Markerboard • Art materials we’re not using • Closets • Other people’s artwork • When I raise my hand: • Stop, Look, and Listen! • Raise your hand too, so I know you’re paying attention • Use the restroom and get water BEFORE class starts • ALWAYS bring your agenda to class • NEVER ask me for a pencil • NEVER ask me what we’re doing before you READ IT ON BOARD FIRST
Consequences: • Verbal Warning • Move seat • Teacher/Student Conference • Alternate assignment • Lunch detention • Office referral • Parent contact
Rewards: • Good grades • Praise • Treats • Sense of accomplishment • Dots (for 7th grade) • Tickets (for 8th grade)
Grading policy: • There will be studio art projects, written assignments, and occasional quizzes • All grades carry equal weight • Art projects will be deducted 10 points for every day late • I rarely assign homework
Class procedures: • Arrive to class quietly and on time • Read and follow instructions written on the board • Work on assigned activity or lesson • Make sure any art materials are put away and your area is clean • Wait quietly in your seat for the teacher to dismiss class
Weekly helpers • Each table of 3-4 people will have an assigned helper • The helper is responsible for gathering and putting away the materials for his/her group • Helpers will rotate for each week • Helpers need to check to make sure materials were not damaged by their group members
Hand Signals • A quick way to tell me what you need • Simply hold up your hand and give me the signal that corresponds to your need: Sharpen Pencil Go to restroom Get water Question or need help
