Centre Pompidou – Metz Shigeru Ban Klemm Runnels
Project Overview When The Pompidou Center proposed the design competition for its new structure, Architect Shireru Ban of Tokyo provided the winning idea. The Pompidou Center in Metz, France is an institution dedicated to modern and contemporary art. The building was to be designed to house gallery exhibits, movie screenings, various workshops for public and private groups, as well as administration areas for staff to oversee day to day operations. Since construction completed in 2009, The Pompidou-Metz has been the venue for numerous art exhibitions and technical workshops, living up to the owner’s expectations.
Shigeru Ban For Shigeru Ban, incorporating wood into the structure is common in his designs. His earlier wood framed projects range from residential designs, to public pavilions, to large scale exhibition galleries. Shigeru Ban’s concept for the Pompidou Center was based on a Chinese hat he purchased years before.
