  1. Hello. I’m subbing in the office. I’ll miss you. Ish.I tried to think of something more interesting for you to do today, since you’ve been so patient with semicolons and commas.

  2. Click on this link to read an interesting blog starter… • New York Times • Learning Network Blog

  3. The following is a series of questions for you. You will get FIVE minutes to write about each one. • 30 minutes total.

  4. Students: Tell us… What makes you happy? Be as specific as you can in listing five things or more. (For instance, if “home” makes you happy, tell us what details about it are so happy-making.)

  5. What do you do to make others happy, whether on purpose or not?

  6. Do you think your nation should be like the Kingdom of Bhutan and have a Gross National Happiness Index? If so, do you think that would measure prosperity better than income does?

  7. Do you agree with Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations secretary-general, that “when we contribute to the common good, we ourselves, are enriched”?

  8. Have you ever had the experience of being made happy by helping someone else?

  9. Do you ever literally “count your blessings,” as the Action for Happiness organization in Britain urges people to do? Now you must; what’s on your list right now?

  10. Now is share time. • The class will be numbered off from 1-17 twice. • Now, the ones will find each other; the twos will find each other, etc. • With your partner, share your most interesting response to the prior questions (Both share). • Now, go back to your seats.

  11. Reflect on partner discussion • Answer these questions on the same sheet of paper as your prior responses: • What was the most interesting thing your partner shared with you? • What questions do you have for your partner? • What conclusion can you draw based upon your learning today?

  12. Is Your Brain Tired? Good. Turn that in to the wire basket. Staple multiple sheets if necessary. (after it’s headed properly, of course!)
