Where are you now? • By this stage in the 2 year GCSE course you will have completed your Year 10 Mock examinations and you will have completed the following coursework; • A) Profile of a famous person 1.1(NC) • B) Account of a holiday 2.2(CC) • C) My ideal Future Job 4.4 (NC) • D) Am I fit and healthy 3.3 (CC) (being prepared for the Mock GCSE)
Aim high! • By this stage you should now have had the opportunity to speak to your teacher (personal interview) about…. • your year 10 mock results • your coursework to date • your personal targets (with teachers support) for the yr 11 mocks and for GCSE (remember you should be aiming to go up at least one grade between the mock and the final examinations)
The 4 skills • Remember there are 4 examinations; • A) Reading H/F(H =40 mins + 5 mins reading time, F = 30 mins + 5 mins reading time) • B) Listening H/F(H=40 mins + 5 mins reading, F = 30 mins + 5 mins reading time) • C) Oral H/F (H = higher role-play + 6-8 mins GC, F=foundation role play + 4-6 mins GC) • D) Coursework (3 pieces, at least 1 in controlled conditions)
So how do you decide? • Your teacher will have a recommendation and will ultimately make the final decision. • Your teacher will use your year 10 mock examinations as evidence. • You can demonstrate improvement by doing extra past papers to help your teacher • Can you use 3 tenses confidently? • What grade are you aiming for?

If you do not have a high enough grade it is up to you to arrange a time to improve your work with your teacher!***
Sixth form mentor • In yr 11 you may have to opportunity to work with a Sixth Former to prepare for your examinations. • If you do please ensure you attend regularly and make the most of the opportunity, unfortunately not every girl will have access to a mentor.

Start now! Allez! Ahora vamos! • The mocks GCSEs are a chance for you to work out your strengths and weakness • To demonstrate that you are able to cope with a higher paper • To re-familiarise yourself with examination content etc • You should also use this opportunity to prepare a revision timetable and to start your GCSE revision for the real exams • Start to summarise topics, revise grammar, learn key sections off by heart and practice past papers • It is up to you now, remember there is not enough class time to thoroughly prepare for these important examinations, so your independent study skills are key!
