Chemical Rod Features of Chemical Rod Provides Low Impedance Earth Ideal for installations with limited space Product description LYTECH’s Chemical Rod provides a low impedance earth to effectively dissipate lightning and electrical fault currents. The Chemical ground rod is ideal in situations where space is restricted and normal lightning earths such as radial and grid type systems cannot be installed. The LPI chemical ground rod is combined with LYTECH’s EEM (Earth Enhancing Material) and mineral salts to provide a maintenance free earthing installation, which provides a low resistance earth. The Chemical ground rod provides extended reliable service due to its robust design, this includes a 60mm (Dia) copper tube, used in conjunction with mineral salts, LYTECH exothermic welded connections and EEM (Earth Enhancing Material) . - 2m or 3m x 60mm Copper Tube - 70mm² Cable (Pigtail) LYTECh Exothermic Welding Connection or mechanical fixing - Mineral Salts - LYTECH EEM (Earth Enhancing Material) Through the use of LYTECH’s exothermic welding material, a pigtail of 70mmsq bare copper cable is pre-welded to the rod prior to supply, this allows for ease of bonding for the Chemical rod and ensures a low impedance current path is maintained. 1 1
Chemical Rod • Recommended Installation • The LYTECH’s Chemical Rod should not be installed: • Within 1.8m of downpipe or other run off from nearby buildings or trees. • Within 6m of the edge of ground level which has a steep decline. • Be sure to check site drawings and records for any existing pipes or buried cables in the area where the • proposed Chemical rod installation is planned to take place. 2 1

Auger a 150mm dia. vertical hole 150mm longer than the Chemical Rod. 2. Dig or auger the top of the hole to a depth of 255 - 270mm and 380mm in diameter for the installation of the Earth Pit. 3. Before Installation, remove the sealing tape from the weep holes along the entire length of the rod. 4. Saturate the hole with water. 5. Mix 5kg of EEM with 5 litres of water, add a little at a time to ensure a paste like consistency, then gradually making the mix thinner with the addition of small amounts of water until the entire 5 litres is added. Avoid large lumps in the mix that become hard to dissolved, by only adding a minimum of water until a smooth paste is created, after which water can be added in larger portions. The mixing of EEM and water is best done in a cement mixer or a wheel barrow, or large bin with the aid of a mixing rod or mechanical agitator, to correctly mix the water and the EEM. 6. Immediately pour the mix directly into the hole around and on the Chemrod. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 again using 5kg of EEM each time. The use of 20kg of EEM for every 1 metre of Chemrod is recommended. 8. Backfill with excavated soil up to 60mm from the top of theChemrod. 3 1
