  1. Male Reproductive Anatomy By: Anthony Glover

  2. Why study the male reproductive anatomy?

  3. Anatomy we are focusing on • Testes • Scrotum • Epididymis • Ductus deferens • Pubic symphysis • Ureter • Ampulla of the ductus deferens • Seminal Vesicles • Ejaculatory duct • Prostate Gland • Bulbourethral gland • Urethra

  4. Testes • They are located in the scrotum • Produce sperm and male sex hormones , also know as androgens. Where are the testes? What do they do?

  5. Scrotum • What is housed inside of the scrotum? Yes, the testes • What is the job of the scrotum? Provides the cooler environment or warmer environment for sperm to mature and develop.

  6. Epididymis The storage site of sperm until they are mature. • Without the sperm being mature. If ejaculated early they are unable to swim through the female reproductive tract. What is this? Why is it important to have this?

  7. Sperm Development

  8. Ductus Deferens (vas deferens) • What is this? This is what the sperm travels through when ejaculated.

  9. Ampulla of the ductus deferens • This connect the seminal vesicles to the ejaculatory duct.

  10. What do Seminal Vesicles do? • They secrete a viscous, whitish-yellow fluid containing fructose. • The fructose nourishes the sperm as they travel through the female reproductive tract.

  11. Ejaculatory ducts • They are a transportation tube for semen to the urethra.

  12. Prostate gland • What does this help with? • This produces citric acid, seminalplasmin, and prostate-specific antigens(PSA). • The citric acid is a nutrient for sperm. The seminalpasmin helps fight urinary infection. And the PSA acts as an enzyme to help liquify semen after ejaculation.

  13. Bulbourethral Glands • These secret a clear fluid that is part of seminal fluid. • This fluid lubricates and buffers the urethra prior to ejaculation. This helps sperm survive.

  14. Urethra • What is the Urethra’s job? • Transport semen from both ejaculatory ducts to the outside of the body.
