CONSTRUCTED HEAD NO. 2 Nasher Sculpture Center by Charley Mitcherson ATEC 6331.001
CONSTRUCTED HEAD NO. 2 BY NAUM GABO-Stainless steel • This sculpture was designed in 1910 as part of the Constructivist movement in Russia. Gabo used the aesthetics of engineering as an influence for the piece. It is a work involving a play on light and shadows, as well as his use of reflections as design elements. • This is the only version of the piece made of stainless steel. The first two were made of cardboard and galvanized iron executed in 1916. After World War II Gabo left Russia and moved to the United States. Here he produced four large-scale versions of this piece.
CONSTRUCTED HEAD REMAKE • I have altered the appearance of the piece to reflect my own aesthetic. It now appears to be lit from the inside, translucent and other-worldly. This could be a construction in glass or plexi perhaps.
