What is this story about? • The Epic of Gilgamesh is a story about the king of Uruk. He was two-thirds god and one-third man. Even though he was strong and wise, he feared death. After his friend died, Gilgamesh set off on a journey to find the secret of eternal life.
How was it written? • This story is a long epic poem that tells about a hero going on a long journey and facing many dangers in hopes of overcoming an important obstacle or goal in their life.
Who wrote it? • The original authors of the stories that create the poem are unknown. • The latest, most complete version so far was written by a Babylonian author named Sin-Leqi-Unninni.
What is the historical significance? • The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest work in literature. • It is believed that Gilgamesh has an account of the flood of Genesis from the Holy Bible.
