Stamped, overlay, carriage, flush, raised panel, recessed panel.  These are all terms that are good to know when choosing a new garage door. • Stamped: when the design panel is embossed into the steel stock.  You can have short, flush, or long panel options.  These are great when budget is your primary consideration. • Overlay: attached to the steel door to create the patterns.  These look most like wood and are the most expensive in the steel realm.

Carriage: these doors look like they have bead board and stamps that look like overlays.  It is unbelievable how authentic and beautiful these doors are.  When you shop in this category, you will get a door that actually improves the value of your home. • Flush – these doors do not have any embossments (other than a VERY quiet wood grain) or absolutely smooth.  The wood grain is there to obfuscate any dents or scratches that might appear over time.  These doors can go from $1k to 5k depending on your style and door tastes.

  4. Recessed – this is a style that strongly goes with traditional houses or Spanish/Mediterranean styles.  Instead of a raised panel, this is recessed.  This door is very quiet and elegant and come in a variety of colors.
