  1. What is the Federated Security WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Von Welch • WG Leads: Randy Butler, Von Welch • Activities (ranked) • Survey and evaluate security requirements and current and near term future solutions particularly in DataONE relevant communities. • Gather and document all requirements from app perspectives (users, resource providers, ….) and identify all stakeholders. • Determine the best authentication solution for yr1 and yr 3 (machines and people- and all agents, multi-systems) • Define the goals of security. What you want to accomplish with your security system. • Defining the minimum licensing (data use policy) requirements to create the lowest barrier to entry.

  2. What is the Distributed Storage WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: John Cobb • WG Leads: John Cobb, Peter Honeyman • Activities (ranked) • Gather and document all requirements from app perspectives (users, resource providers, ….) and identify all stakeholders. • Survey and evaluate distributed storage requirements and current and near term future solutions particularly in DataONE relevant communities • Develop a prototype demonstration of cutting edge (emerging) technologies. • Specify an API that is agnostic to underlying storage technology • Specify different levels of compliance with respect to replication and storage compliance

  3. What is the Data preservation, metadata, and interoperability WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Kunze • WG Leads: John Kunze, Donald Hobern • Activities (ranked) • Identify core metadata for discovery, access, and integration • Gather and document all requirements from app perspectives (users, resource providers, ….) and identify all stakeholders. • Define preservation and spinoff activities Rank 3-tie • Mitigation strategies for differences in scientific metadata. Rank 3-tie • Survey and evaluate preservation and interoperability requirements and current and near term future solutions particularly in DataONE relevant communities.

  4. What is the Scientific Workflows WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Paolo • WG Leads: Ewa Deelman, Carole Goble • Activities (ranked) • Survey and evaluate scientific workflow requirements and current and near term future solutions particularly in DataONE relevant communities.Rank1-tie • Gather and document all requirements from app perspectives (users, resource providers, ….) and identify all stakeholders.Rank1-tie • Coordinate with EVA to develop example workflows using DataONE tools and data. Rank1-tie • Extend existing workflow systems to use DataONE content through a common API. Rank1-tie • Develop a strategy for the use of scientific workflows (SWF’s) in data preservation and provenance. Rank5-tie • Identify workflow specific meta-data Rank5-tie

  5. What is the Data Integration and Semantics WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Line Pouchard • WG Leads: Bertram Ludaescher, Line Pouchard • Activities (ranked) • Gather and document all requirements from app perspectives (users, resource providers, ….) and identify all stakeholders. • Survey and evaluate data integration and semantics requirements and current and near term future solutions particularly in DataONE relevant communities. Rank2-tie • Establish a “schema registry” Rank 2-tie • In collaboration with EVA define showcase solutions for integration Rank 2-tie • Develop a strategy for using KRR (knowledge representation and reasoning) for efficient integration Rank 5-tie • Develop methods for data and schema evolution. Rank 5-tie • Mitigation strategy for difference in scientific content Rank 5-tie

  6. What is the Socio-cultural Issues WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Maribeth Manoff • WG Leads: Suzie Allard, Maribeth Manoff • Activities • Identify communities and identify and examine the sociological and cultural issues that inhibit and encourage effective data sharing and long-term preservation. • Evaluate and recommend strategies that overcome socio-cultural barriers and create incentives for data preservation. • Explore and make recommendations regarding the roles for libraries, professional societies, funders in training data authors, supporting data curation, and acting as a facilitator of digital preservation practices. (e.g. test through a pilot program. • Develop and recommend training and a communication campaign. • Develop a strategy to coordinate with software/hardware producers.

  7. What is the Community Engagement and Education WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Viv Hutchinson • WG Leads: Stephanie Hampton, Vivian Hutchison • Activities • Identify community input on tools for data providers and users for dissemination to stakeholders. • Establish a training program for both science and citizen science initiatives for example a certificate program. • Establish metrics that will be used to determine the adoption success and utility of DataONE products • Develop and implement an internal and external communication strategy including social media (Web 2.0) • Process to feedback into CI and toolkit development • Implement a pilot project

  8. What is the Citizen Science and Public Outreach WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Jake Weltzin • WG Leads: Steve Kelling, Jake Weltzin • Activities • Create a comprehensive metadata and data management strategy for citizen-based observational networks. • Build tools to allow project managers, researchers, educators, networks or the public to develop a customizable web-based data and metadata gathering system. • Identify citizen science efforts and what citizen science data exists. • Develop examples of how data can be used and misused. • Survey non-scientist data users and make sure needs are met – for example land resource and community managers).

  9. What is the Usability & Assessment WG’s 5 most important activity? • Presenter: Carol Tenopi • WG Leads: Mike Frame, Carol Tenopir • Activities • Develop an internal and external assessment plan for DataONE products, services, and deliverables. • Identify DataONE stakeholders and customers. • Develop and implement baseline assessment on a regu • Develop and implement usability analysis and assessment plan (including engagement with DUIG) • Develop best practices guide for performing usability analysis and for doing an assessment for DataONE products and services. • Develop process for interaction and feedback to the core CI team.
