Purpose of Today 1. To share our vision for Dartington in the next five years • To clarify our purpose and to update you on our programmes in the arts, social justice and sustainability • To provide you with an opportunity to ask questions of the Dartington Senior Management Team
Dartington is a pioneering charity nurturing ideas to address pressing problems
Today our focus is in three main areas ARTS SUSTAINABILITY SOCIAL JUSTICE

What is planned for Dartington? • 16 charitable programmes • 1m visitors • 350 staff Continuation of existing activities Development of new initiatives
The Arts: Significant achievement and momentum Area Achievement • Doubling of arts activities in last three years • to £2.7million • Creation of new programmes: • - South West Music School • - Dartington Summer Youth Programme • - Transatlantic Arts Consortium • Continuation of core activities: • - Dartington International Summer School • - Year round live event programme • - Film programme at Barn Cinema • - Dartington Plus (KEVICC and UCF) The Arts
The Arts: new initiatives • Lower Close & Hexagon Gym will become Dartington SPACE, a creative hub similar to the Jerwood Space in London • SPACE will be part hothouse, rehearsal space, and an educational centre for emerging artists and creative professionals • New creative partnerships with regional, national international partners will create exciting new work with a “Made at Dartington” stamp. These include: KEVICC Devon Academy of Performing Arts in September 2010 (Hexagon Gym); Royal Ballet School; English Touring Opera; Soundart Radio; Aune Head Arts
Sustainability: achievements and new initiatives Area Achievements & New Initiatives Sustainability New Initiatives • Growth in courses at Schumacher College • Launch of new LandScope project • Beginning to walk the talk at Dartington • - 25% reduction in carbon emissions • New Green Skilling vocational courses to be offered • at Higher Close • New advanced courses in Sustainability • Use of estate for training and demonstrations projects • in Sustainability • Schumacher Worldwide including China Sustainability Achievements
Social Justice: significant momentum and new initiatives • New form of residential community living for older people – Abundant Life • New ways of thinking about and contributing in older age • School for Social Entrepreneurs • Potential project on developing life and work skills with ex-prisoners Social Justice New Initiatives • 30% growth in Research in Practice • 2/3 of local authorities now members • Launched Research in Practice for Adults • Established National Centre for Excellence & Outcomes in Children and Young People’s Services = C4EO Social Justice Achievements
