Culture • The Kikuyu tribe believes in Ngai (Ngai is their God) • They are superstitious about the number ten. So instead they say a “full nine”. • Girls and boys are raised differently. Girls plant crops and discipline school girls. Boys are the head of the household and make most major decisions.
Cuisine • Ugali- a stiff cornmeal porridge • Githeri- maize and beans dish • Irio- potatoes, greens, and beans dish • Roasted goat, beef, chicken and collards such as spinach and carrots
Mau Mau • Most of the rebels came from Kikuyu background. • They would come into your village at night and force you to take an oath to keep the Mau Mau a secret. • Anyone who did not take the oath would either be killed or their house would be burned down. • Some of the Mau Mau members would make people kill or harm European farmers at knife point and if they didn’t they would be killed.
Some Animals of Kenya • Cheetahs • Zebras • Lions • Giraffes • Baboons • Rhinos • Cows
