1. DuPont® Fluorosurfactants Industrial and Institutional Applications
2. What are Zonyl® Fluorosurfactants?
Where are they used?
Why are they better?
How do I contact DuPont for more information? Introduction toZonyl® Fluorosurfactants
3. Zonyl® Fluorosurfactants main uses I&I
Waxes for wetting and rewet in multiple coats
Wax stripper concentrates for surface tension lowering
To lower surface tension and reduce surfactant usage levels in many applications
Work in combination with existing surfactant package to enhance overall performance of the surfactants while reducing total amount of surfactants necessary
4. Surfactants And Wetting Surfactants Lower Surface Tension of Liquidsand Improve Wetting and Spreading
6. Focus on Industrial and Institutional Cleaners
Wetting, Penetration, Decreased Surface Residue, pH stability
FSH, FS-300, FS-500, FS-510
Floor Waxes and Polishes
Wetting, Leveling, Rewetting
FSA, FSJ, FS-610, FSO, FSH
Other Markets in I&I
Wax strippers
Glass cleaners
Commercial vehicle cleaning
7. Decreased Surface Residue Glass Cleaners, Cleaners For Shiny Substrates
Fluorosurfactants are useful in cleaners requiring
- Minimal residue (decreases streaking or smudges)
- Wetting
- Penetration
- Reduced drying time
- Cleaning power
Recommendation: Zonyl® FSH, FSA, FS-610
8. Floor Waxes Fluorosurfactants are used in most commercial floor waxes
They provide:
wetting and rewet for multiple coat systems
easy spreading and leveling of the wax system
lower scuffing and dulling of the floor finish
no impact on gloss levels
ability to comply with “Green Seal”
9. Surface Tension of Commercial Fluorosurfactants in Rohm & Haas RHOPLEX® 3829 Floor Polish
10. OECD 301b Testing Zonyl® Fluorosurfactants that pass OECD 301b test methods:
FSA: Anionic Surfactant
FSE: Anionic Surfactant
FS-300: Nonionic Surfactant
This is required for European detergent formulations (EU 648 Directive) and is important to meet today’s market needs.
11. Metal Surface Modification Fluorosurfactants chemisorb strongly on metal surfaces which offers numerous benefits:
Stability in alkaline cleaner concentrates
Reduced “dragout”
Reduces amount of chemicals depleted from bath when metal parts are removed
A metal surface resistant to flash corrosion, repellant to water and oily soils, and readily accepts a coating
Keeps metal parts looking cleaner, longer
12. Metal Surface Modification, cont. Increases Mold Release: The adsorbed monolayer of surfactant lowers the surface energy of the mold
Decreases tendency of parts to stick to ceramic or metals molds
Also used on stainless steel belts for polymer film release
13. Zonyl® Fluorosurfactants are Cost Effective
15. Zonyl® Cost Effectiveness
16. Zonyl® Fluorosurfactants and Hydrocarbon Surfactants Work Together for Improved Wetting and Spreading!
17. Why use Zonyl® Fluorosurfactants? Unparalleled wetting power
You use less… usually 10 to 30 times less.
Cost effective
Leave fewer residues
When mixed with hydrocarbon surfactants you can reduce their usage
Less chance to react negatively with chemistry formulation because of low use rates
Function in harsh chemical and thermal environments, and across wide pH range where other surfactants will break down
Function in solvent systems and aqueous systems
18. Compliance of DuPont™ SPS* products with the European Directive 2006/122 DuPont™ SPS products are in compliance with the European Directive 2006/122 relating to restrictions on the marketing and use of perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS) (amendment of Council Directive 76/769/EEC)
PFOS is not used or added in the manufacture of DuPont ™SPS products
In fact, DuPont™ products are based upon a completely different chemistry than that associated with PFOS
Please note that perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is not part of this directive, and there is no European Directive to regulate PFOA.
Also note that the Norwegian market and use restriction proposal for PFOA has been put on hold in favor of REACH.
20. The First Step: DuPont LX Platform products Based on DuPont innovative, patented technology
$22MM investment in new manufacturing process

Meet 2010 EPA stewardship program objective for PFOA, direct precursors and higher homologues
>97% reduction of PFOA and direct precursors
Target product content at < LOQ*:
PFOA
Homologues
Direct Precursors
Performance: Best in class
Drop-in replacements require no re-qualifications

22. DuPont™ Capstone™ products A broad portfolio of sustainable, performance driven fluorine-efficient repellents that meet or exceed global market performance requirements.
Capstone™ products are based on short-chain molecules that cannot breakdown to PFOA in the environment. This change, when combined with the technology for LX Platform products yields fluorotelomer products with negligible PFOA and PFOA precursor content.
Short-chain products are based on chain lengths containing six or fewer fluorinated carbons.
23. Why Capstone™?
24. DuPont™ Capstone™ products Availability: DuPont has the largest short-chain telomer capacity in the world
Recently expanded capacity by 3x for short chain telomers
DuPont currently offers short-chain products in 4 segments that meet specific customer performance criteria.
DuPont has a product plan that will allow the transition of key segments to short-chain chemistry by the end of 2010
Products and samples will be available over the next 12-18 months to replace LX Platform products
25. DuPont™ Capstone™ products Environmental sustainability and performance equal to or better than current DuPont products. Conversion to Capstone™ products further reduces the global footprint without compromising performance and fluorine efficiency.
Performance in end-use applications is similar to traditional LX Platform products.
Listed on existing global regulatory inventories, including the US (TSCA), Europe (EINECS), and meet the goals of the voluntary U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program.
26. DuPont™ Capstone™ products Technology Summary Meets voluntary US EPA 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program Commitments
Product Content Profile:
PFOA*: < LOD
Direct Precursors: < LOQ (>95% reduction Rf8 and above)
Indirect precursors: < LOQ (>95% reduction Rf8-2 alcohol (and greater)
*LOD = < 0.5 ppm; LOQ = < 2 ppm
27. Next Generation – DuPont Products Novel products based on proprietary technologies currently under development
