Additional Guidelines Each slide must have: Graphics (Should be theme oriented) Page number (bottom right corner of slide) Text (minimum size font 24) Text must be in contrast to background and should be easy to read Content must be composed by you (no cut and paste). You may use direct quotes provided you site your source. (Penalty for plagiarism: No credit for one or more applicable rubric component/s). Make sure that you keep track and record your sources as you go… from the beginning. Narration Volume Appropriate (Audacity is an excellent program for this) Timing Audio, video, text, animation, etc must be synchronized. Should be timed in such a way that each slide is given an appropriate amount of time to be understood (Not too long, so as to be boring – nor to short to follow). Must run independently (one click to start). This will directly impact the quality score. Please contact us if you do not have access to Microsoft Office immediately. No MP3 or MP4 files since they won’t play with PowerPoint 3

4. Bibliography Rules Divide bibliography into two/four sections. Images 1st, then information 2nd, music 3rd (if used must be instrumental only), and video 4th (if you use it) For images and video, list the slide number, what it is, and then the web address. Cite the actual web address of the actual page that is the source of the information / image used. Web site must be cited in such a way that you would be taken directly to the source page if you copy and paste to the address bar. Don’t list a search engine (e.g. Google) as a source…GOOGLE IS NOT A SOURCE! Remember, it is perfectly all right to use a book too! 4

6. “How to” instructions Instructions for using these features mentioned in the instructions can be found on line or by using the “Help” feature on the toolbar of Microsoft PowerPoint. What follows are some helpful tips… Audacity – This program allows you to combine music and narration. It allows you to adjust the volume of each for a quality sound. Go to audacity.com Narration – This feature allows you to speak on each slide. The actual instructions, shown later in this presentation, are taken from the web site, actden.com. 7. Recording your own sound filesTo record sound files, you need to plug a microphone into the mic jack on your computer's sound card. The following steps show you how to record a narration for a slide. 1. Go to Slide View and display the slide you want to add a recording to. 2. Click the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, then click Record Sound. 7

8. 3. When the Record Sound dialog box appears, type a name for your recording in the Name box. Below the name box are three buttons. The first button, with the arrow, is the Play button. The middle button, with the square, is the Stop button. The last button, with a red dot, is the Record button. 4. To start recording, click the Record button, then begin talking into your microphone. 5. When you finish talking, click the Stop button. 6. Click the Play button to play back your recording. If you want to add another segment to your recording, simply click the Record button and start talking again. When you're finished, click the Stop button. The new segment will be added to your previous one. 8
