  1. Computer game graphics And Artistic styles within games

  2. The first art style I'm going to talk about is pixel art which has been widely used for generations, however, today people only use pixel art for a few main reasons, 1) the console, PC or device (such as a old mobile) has pixelated graphics as its easier for it to render, 2) it has been purposefully chosen to give the game that retro feel to target a older audience or someone how likes that art style. Pixel art is normally made within a piece of software normally used to make raster based graphics and are edited on the pixel level. Pixel art was originally founded in 1972 and was mainly due to the lack of technology and it was a major sight within games around the 70’s onwards. There are many major games that we all recognise that use pixel graphics but the main one of the last few years that almost everyone can spot straight away due to its distinctive art style and that game being Minecraft. Minecraft was first made by one person who goes by the name ‘Notch’ however as the game gradually became more widely recognized and bought ‘Notch’ needed to have help where the game developer Mojang was the that helper. The game was such a success that they managed to create and publish the game to a variety of platforms including PC, tablets, mobiles and Xbox, (in total so far selling over 20 million game copies) and there so much of a success that the game even has its own yearly convention ‘MineCon.’ However Minecraft isn’t the only major game that used pixel art, another well known pixelated game would be the old Legend od Zelda game, this game has been viewed as a classic for many years, I personally still play this game and enjoy it. There are some less well known games that used pixel graphics such as vandal hearts, this strategic turn based game is personally my favourite game ever and yet many people have never even heard of this game.

  3. Exaggerated What does exaggerated actually refer too exactly: Over the top (hyperbole), over stretched, over shrunk, over the top or can also be seen over reactive. Exaggerated graphics are a common sight within games in todays world but the main area where this graphic is used would be the Asian area (places like japan and china) these places specialise in anime games and videos and normally within these anime the characters are somewhat exaggerated either with the weapons they use or the hair styles they have, probably the most well know computer game that uses such a graphic would be final fantasy such as Cloud strife in the older games having very outrageous (but awesome) hair as well as lifting a sword that would be clearly impossible and his figure being exceptionally slim and his character looks rather weak, and in the newer final fantasy series lightening has exceptionally cool hair even after a massive fight scene and many flips with not even a piece of hair out of place. Another game that has a massively exaggerated feel to it would definitely be saints row the 3rd as you can pick up giant fists and hit someone with them and then they explode, this would clearly not happen in real life.

  4. Photorealistic Photorealism is a style of art which reflects real life although it may have some minor adjustments but it’s a style that has the most resemblance to life, this style of art is mostly used within games such as simulators and games where they are trying to immerse the player in the more life like of play which they can link to, most games nowadays use this graphic type such as forza, gran turismo, call of duty series, heavy rain, battlefield and fifa.

  5. Cell Shaded Cell shaded graphics is a specific way of rendering a 3d game (only 3d) and is to make the game fell more comic like or childish while retaining a mature style of audience. Games such as borderlands, most superhero games, Simpsons hit and run and Zelda wind waker.
