Terminal Data Distribution System (TDDS).
E N D
Terminal Data Distribution System (TDDS) In the SWIM Segment 1 timeframe, infrastructure to support transition to a SWIM-based interface to many Terminal systems will be provided. This infrastructure will provide an IP-based front end to Terminal legacy systems. Existing flight data interfaces to Terminal are antiquated and are limited to receiving a subset of the data. A number of these Terminal systems are connected via a passive tap off an existing En Route/terminal interface to the flight strip printer and are therefore limited to only those data elements that support the current flight strip printer interface. The direct interface will allow for the bidirectional flow of information and make available status event information previously only available in Terminal. As an example, today’s departure flight strip printing triggers the transfer of flight data to the Terminal Datalink System/ Pre-departure Clearance (TDLS/PDC) without any ability to receive an acknowledgement or subsequently send any revised clearances via TDLS/PDC. In the SWIM segment 1 timeframe, TDLS/PDC will have access to the full route of flight in the flight data. This will support the datalink delivery of full route clearances and revised clearances due to flight plan amendments. Terminal automation will be capable of providing the departure clearance status as an acknowledgement that the clearance was delivered, when available.
