RIB • RIB MATERIAL : STEEL • NUMBER OF RIBS : TO BE OPTIMIZED DEPENDING ON DETECTOR’S EFFICIENCY AND STIFFNESS REQUIRED • ASSUMING A RIB OF 1 MM THICK FOR EACH TUBE, THE TOTAL LENGTH NEEDED IS ABOUT 8000 m; THE CORRESPONDING WEIGHT IS 1260 Kg AND THE COST = 3.6*1260 = 4536 € (20% VAT INCLUDED) V. GLUEING – PHASE 2 • THE DETECTOR’S MODULE IS ASSEMBLED V. Carassiti - Princeton (USA) 9-13/01/2003
GLUEING – PHASE 3 • STRIPS, GROUND, SIGNAL PCB AND INSULATOR FOILS ARE ASSEMBLED • THE TOTAL THICKNESS IS ABOUT 1 MM V. Carassiti - Princeton (USA) 9-13/01/2003
GLUEING – PHASE 4 • STRIPS, GROUND, SIGNAL PCB AND INSULATOR FOILS ARE GLUED ON THE TUBES V. Carassiti - Princeton (USA) 9-13/01/2003

MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING THE DETECTOR • THE STRIPS FOIL GOES IN TO THE GAP (SLIDE 13); A PROPER TOOLING KEEPS IT IN SHAPE AND PLACE • THE MODULES OF THE DETECTOR ARE INSERTED ONE BY ONE FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP, THE NEXT SLIDING ON THE PREVIOUS ONE (SLIDES 14, 15) • EACH MODULE CAN BE HELD ON BOTH EDGES, WHICH ALLOWS THE LIFTING AND THE ADJUSTMENT. • WHEN THE CORNER PIECES ARE MOUNTED THE DETECTOR DISASSEMBLY IS STILL POSSIBLE AFTER THE CENTER PIECES REMOVAL (SLIDE 16); THE PROCEDURE IS THE FOLLOWING: 1) LIFTING THE UPPER MODULES 2) EXTRACT THE CENTRAL MODULES 3) IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAP THERE’S THE SPACE TO LOWER OR LIFT THE OTHER MODULES.AND REMOVE THEM. • THE OPERATION OF ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY NEED A TOOLING, HOLDING AND HANDLING THE MODULES OF THE DETECTOR. INSERTING THE STRIP FOIL • THE STRIP FOIL SLIDES INTO THE GAP • A TOOLING HOLDING AND MOVING THE FOIL IS NEEDED V. Carassiti - Princeton (USA) 9-13/01/2003
