Her brother, who lives in another state sends her a text, “I will give you $100 if you do not get another ticket this year.” Lisa agrees, and does not get any tickets for speeding. Is the brother’s statement a binding contract? No. Lisa had a pre-existing duty to follow the law. Therefore, a promise to do so is not valid.
