Abortion: The never ending protest • The earliest evidence of abortion was found in the 5th century. • The debate of abortion in the U.S started in the late 1850s. • 1875- Every state has banned abortion. • 1967- Colorado was the first state to legalize abortion for certain circumstances. • 1973- Roe vs. Wade Stating that a constitutional "right to privacy" exists that protects a woman's decision to have an abortion, the U.S. Supreme Court legalizes abortion on demand. • 2012- President Obama promotes abortion. Obamacare funds abortion.

The perceived injustice: Murder • Many Americans debate the legalization of abortion. • Many argue abortion is unjust for unborn babies and is murder. • Some argue abortion is a serious decision that should be able to be a free choice. • Few argue abortion is a risky topic and decision. They are undecided whether it is the best decision. They’re not fully against it and also not fully for it.

Pro-Life & Pro-Choice: Take Action • The United States pro-life movement (also known as the United States anti-abortion movement or the United States right-to-life movement) is a social and political movement in the United States opposing abortion. • Advocates generally argue that the human fetus is a person and therefore has a right to life. • The United States pro-choice movement (also known as the United States abortion-rights movement) is a social and political movement in the United States supporting the view that a woman should have the legal right to elective abortion. • Bills were passed for the choice of abortion.

Operation Rescue: Success • It took many years before there was a final decision on the legalization of abortion. • The many protests contributed to the decision. • The key to the legalization of abortion was the Roe vs. Wade ruled 7–2 that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion.

  6. Thoreau’s concept of civil disobedience: Compare & Contrast • Thoreau’s concept states that the over-powering government is unjust and should not diminish the people’s rights. Fighting for what we believe is fair for the people. He also says the government is corrupt and treats people unequally. • Civil disobedience- is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws, demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. • This isn't an example of civil obedience because there wasn’t really a refusal of governmental demands. The abortion debate is really to just persuade the government to change laws on the choice of abortion. However, in a way this connects with Thoreau’s concept because the government was not fulfilling people’s rights at first and they can’t control a woman’s body and her pregnancy decisions. The protests demonstrated they wanted change and the power of free choice.
