Don’t be shy! • We are young PR professionals and we all like to talk! • Do not be afraid to introduce yourself to someonenew • Be confident and smile!
Watch what you say • You never know who else is listening • Don’t say something you will regret later
Hand shake • Have a strong handshake • Make eye contact • Stand up when shaking hands
Business Cards • Have business cards ready • You do not necessarily need to hand them out to everyone you meet, but keep in mind you never know who you will meet • Proofread • Make sure they are appropriate
Elevator Speech • Know it by heart, practice it • Make it adaptable, know a few different ones • Who you are, year and major, your specialty, your results, WHY you do what you do, what you want • 30 seconds to 2 minutes
Small talk • Doesn’t have to all be business • Discover mutual interests • Don’t make the conversation all about you
Share contacts • Help others out • Share mutual or beneficial contacts with others
Networking at events • Don’t drink too much alcohol • Wear appropriate attire for each event • Don’t stick with people you know, you’re there to meet new people • Get contact information
Conferences, Tweetups, and more • Attend as many conferences as you can • You will learn tons of information and create lasting contacts • Meet people from Twitter at Tweetups • Other meetups around, like the Mashablemeetups.
PRSSA National Assembly • Vote on proposed bylaw amendments • Elect the 2010–2011 National Committee • Leadership training sessions, Assembly meetings and socials

Etiquette Dinner and other events • Attend the etiquette dinner and reception events held at WCU. • You will learn valuable information from them! • Know proper rules for dinner settings
