THE AIMS… • Students are able to understand the implementation system of graduate study for all levels (PhD, M.S and M.Ed/ M.HRD) at FPP. • With that, students are able to undergo their studies in accordance to the procedure in full confidence. • Thus, it will aid the students to obtain excellent achievement in their studies.

  6. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) • Must be completed within; • PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Note: If you need to extend, apply when you’re in the 10th semester (full time) or 12th semester (part-time). Please inform your supervisor to get his/her support.

  7. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT Successfully completed course work; • Minimum 7 credits - Compulsory • Maximum 32 credits - Depending on the advice from your supervisor.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • COMPULSORY COURSES (7 CR) • For PhD in Education (6 cr) • EDU 5900 - Research Methods (3 cr) • EDU 5950 – Educational Statistics (3 cr) • For PhD in HRD (6 cr) • DCE 5900 - Research Methods (3 cr) • DCE 5950 - Statistics for Social Science (3 cr) • SPS 6903 Seminar (1 cr) both for PhD in Educ and HRD • You must sit for this course beginning with the 2nd semester or in any of subsequent semesters onwards. • You must be prepared with a topic and 1 or 2 chapters.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) - cont PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT Students who have taken; • Research Methods (EDU 5900/DCE 5900), and • Educational Statistics (EDU 5950) or Statistics for Social Science (DCE 5950) within 3 years of studies at University Putra Malaysia with at least grade B are advised to register for more advanced courses.

  10. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Register SPS6999 (Doctoral Research) for every semester. • You may choose 3, 6, 9 or 12 cr. • When you have completed all the course works, please register SPS6999 (Doctoral Research) for min 6 cr.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Pass the Comprehensive Examination (CE). • The examination is taken after completing all courses as specified in the programme before or on 5th semester. • Publish 2 articles in CIJ (Cited International Journal either in Scopus and/or ISI web of knowledge) based on your PhD research. • 1 journal article published or accepted, and • 1 journal article submitted • Try to publish in Q1 and Q2 journals. • Try to participate in The Best PhD Thesis Award • Try to participate in 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) contest Optional but Encouraged

  21. Master of Science (MS) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Must be completed within; Note: If you need to extend, apply it when you’re in 6th semester (full time) or 8th semester (part-time). Please inform your supervisor to get his/her support.

Master of Science (MS) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Successfullycompleted 7 credits of compulsory courses • For MS in Education (6 cr) • Research Methods (EDU 5900), and • Educational Statistics (EDU 5950) • For MS in HRD (6 cr) • Research Methods (DCE 5900) – 3cr, and • Statistics for Social Science (DCE 5950) – 3cr • SPS 5903 Seminar (1 cr) for both MS in Ed and MS in HRD • You must sit for this course beginning with the 2nd semester or in any of subsequent semesters onwards. • You must be prepared with a topic and 1 or 2 chapters.

Master of Science (MS) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • M.S Guidance and Counselling, students are required to complete 43 credits. • Please discuss with your program coordinator/advisorfor any additional courses that you or your advisor found relevant to your study. • Students who do not have any background in education are advised to sit for EDU 5905 – Concept of Education and Teaching Profession.

  24. Master of Science (MS) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Register SPS 5999 (Master Research) for every semester. • You may choose 3, 6, 9 or 12 cr. • When you have completed all the course works, please register SPS 5999 (Master Research) for min 6 cr.

  25. Master of Science (MS) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • MUST publish at least one article based on the findings of your research in refereed journal. Note: The requirement is deemed as fulfilled when the article has been acceptedfor publication.

  35. Master Without Thesis (M.Ed & MHRD) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Must be completed within; Note: If you need to extend, apply it when you’re in 6th semester (full time) or 8th semester (part-time). Please inform your supervisor to get his/her support.

Master Without Thesis (M.Ed & MHRD) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Successfully completed all courses for, • 40 credits, inclusive; • Project Paper (EDU 5988) (6 cr) and, • Research Proposal Seminar (EDU 5977) (1 cr) or • 40-42 credits, inclusive; • Comprehensive exam and, • Research Proposal Seminar (EDU 5977 - 1 cr) OR • extra ONE 3 cr course or • 48 credits only forGuidance and Counselling Note: M.Ed (Guidance and Counselling), M.Ed (Sport Science) and M.Ed (Physical Education) – the only option is Project Paper.

Master Without Thesis (M.Ed & MHRD) The 40 credits are distributed into; • 24 credits for Compulsory Courses • 16 credits for Elective Courses Exception: Guidance and Counselling 48 credits are distributed into; • 42 credits for Compulsory Courses • 6 credits for Elective Courses Note: Students who do not have any background in education are required to sit for EDU 5905 – Concept of Education and Teaching Profession.

  38. Master Without Thesis (M.Ed & MHRD) PROGRAMME REQUIREMENT • Pass (minimum C+ or 55%) • Comprehensive Examination OR • EDU 5988 Project Paper (mini thesis). • Maintain CGPA at 3.00 and above

  39. Which one to choose? CE or Project Paper? Goals: Students are able; To understand his field of study as a whole . Project Paper (EDU 5988/DCE 5988) • The concept of Project Paper for non-thesis master's students is based on research. • It is a requirement for graduation. • The purpose of Project Paper is to make sure students, as ‘consumers of research‘, have the abilities to read and understand the content of research articles related to the field of study.

  41. Project Paper (EDU 5988/DCE 5988) • The Project Paper must be completed within two (2) consecutive semesters. • Students can register as early as the Second Semester of their study and above.

  42. Project Paper (EDU 5988/DCE 5988) • For M.Ed. students, they must register for EDU 5988 (Project Paper) • For M.HRD students, they must register for DCE 5988 (Project Paper). • A briefing on the Project Paper will be given on week 9 of this semester.

  43. Comprehensive Examination (C.E):Master of Education • Two (2) days exam • Distribution of duration regarding M.Edprogramme

  45. Comprehensive Examination (C.E) • Fail any paper the first time - re-sit the paper again. • Fail the paper the second time – sit for oral session to verify the student’s understanding. • If fail again?

  46. Important notes… • Failing ONE of the CE papers (after re-sit and oral session) means failing CE. You will not be able to GRADUATE. • Students with scores of 5.5 and below at the first level of supervision; • will be TERMINATEDfrom continuing project paper, • will have to take 2 elective courses (6 credits),and • will have to take the Comprehensive Examination (CE).
