Objective of EFL • EFL has provided funding for interventions in the following fields: • reducing environmental risks in areas affected by July 2006 war, • piloting the abatement of industrial pollution • adaptation to climate change in north Lebanon • EFL also provides necessary training and other capacity development needs related to the funded activities in view of reaching a multiplying effect. 1

Piloting the Abatement of Industrial Wastewater under EFL • Treatment of industrial waster in Kesrwan, Litani Basin and North Lebanon • Important initiative for allowing the operation of wastewater treatment plants, reduce negative impacts on surface and ground water and allow economic benefits through recycling and reuse of water and raw material • Between 2010 and 2012, EFL funded 6 interventions related to • wastewater management and compliance with a total budget of • € 1 million 1

Policy Paper on Industrial Wastewater Management and Compliance • Development of a Policy Paper on Industrial wastewater compliance • and management in view of reducing industrial pollution • Policy recommendations to support the enforcement of the regulations set by MoE • This Policy Paper is guiding the preparation of an Action Plan for • Industrial Pollution Abatement and which will be implemented in coordination with the different concerned stakeholders 1

EFL’s Technical Assistance for the Abatement of Industrial Pollution • In 2012, EFL conducted preliminary studies focusing on • abatement of industrial pollution for 13 private enterprises • across Lebanon • EFL can provide Technical Assistance to any industrial enterprise in Lebanon to develop preliminary studies for the abatement of industrial pollution 1
