What Is Photography? • Photography is coming from the word ‘photos’ and ‘graphos’ in Greek. • ‘Photos’ means light and ‘Graphos’ means graphics and has a meaning of drawing with light. • Photography is an art and science of creating images by technologies of the camera. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography

Techniques In Photography : Introduction • When you are judging a great photo you need to know what the photographer’s techniques used inside the photo. • Those techniques are used at all kinds of photography types such as; photojournalism, documentation, nature and others. • The techniques in Photography are; high speed photography, composition, angle, focusing, etc. • Those techniques are commonly used in all types of photography, they are used to enhance the picture and to make it better.

Basic Techniques In Photography Proper angle in photography • Angle in photography is the position where you are shooting the subject. • For an example when you are shooting a product to advertise someone you really need to show the product by showing the product in a good angle to persuade people to buy. • When shooting a subject with a good angle you need to consider the position of the subject and the photographer when shooting the subject. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camera_angle

Basic Techniques In Photography Focus in photography • A focus in photography is an action of taking photos with certain distance to make the image clearer to be seen. • Some cameras have got ‘focus’ tools built in the camera, but sometimes some people tend to have manual setting on the focus when taking pictures/images. • When you are capturing one object, make sure that your lens is in the appropriate distance. Basic Techniques In Photography Color balance in photography • Color balance in photography is the adjustment for the color inserted or applied in photography It mostly focus on primary colors such as blue, red and green. • When using the color balance in photography it mostly focus on the main colors then they adjust the colors for example when shooting the flower it mostly increases the green part and the red part then they have balance and contrast with other colors inserted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_balance

7. Basic Techniques In Photography High-speed photography  • High-speed photography is a type of photography that takes pictures of very fast moving objects. The first thing about the high-speed photography looks like the object that looks like freezing is actually moving. The second is that a series of photographs may be taken at a high sampling frequency or frame rate. • Shutter speed is also known as “exposure time” that stands for the length of time a camera shutter is taking. If the shutter speed is fast, it can help more in making the object freeze while moving. If the shutter speed is slow, it can cause the photography to have a motion blur. • High-speed photography can help people to record kinds of fast moving object that is invisible to human’s eye. Kinds Of Pollution Air Pollution: • Air pollution is defined as pollutions of the atmosphere that broke much of the natural composition of the air. • They comes from variety of sources such as; vehicle or manufacturing exhaust, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, building construction or destruction. • Many scientists believe that global warming is also one cause of increased air pollution. Water Pollution: • Water pollution is containing of any polluted/infected water, whether it is from chemical or bacterial matters. Water pollution can happen in oceans, rivers, lakes, or even underground tanks. • There are several causes of water pollutions and it includes; increased sediment from soil destruction, improper waste disposal and littering, leaking of soil pollution into water supplies, organic material falling-off in water supplies. • And the effects of water pollution includes; decreasing the quantity of drinking water available, fewer water supplies for crops irrigation, and impacting fish and wildlife populations that needs water for a certain way of surviving.

9. Kinds Of Pollution Soil Pollution: • Soil pollution is the infection of the soil. It affects the lands which are used for cultivation, habitation, or a wildlife preserve. • Soil pollution sources are; dangerous waste and dirt spills, non-sustainable farming practices, strip mining, deforestations, household dumping and littering. • Soil pollution can also lead to poor growth and reduced crop yield (product), loss of wildlife habitat, water and visual pollution, soil destruction. Noise Pollution: • Noise pollution is high noise of noises caused by human activities. • Noise pollutions can come from; traffic, airports, railroads, manufacturing plants, constructions, concerts. • Some of the effects are; hearing loss, wildlife conflicts, and a general poverty of lifestyle.

Kinds Of Pollution Thermal Pollution: • Thermal pollution is heat that creates unwanted effects over long periods of time. • The causes of thermal pollution are; power plants, urban sprawl, air pollution particulates that trap heat, deforestation, loss of temperature moderating water supplies. • As temperature increases, slight climatic changes may be observed, and wildlife populations may be unable to recover from rapid changes. Personal Pollution: • Personal pollution is the actions done in our daily life. • This includes; excessive smoking, drinking, or drugs, emotional or physical abuse, poor living conditions and habits, poor personal attitudes. • This pollution are also caused by caregivers, while in other cases, it is caused by voluntary actions.

Kinds of Pollution Light Pollution: • Light pollution is the over brightness of an area that is considered bulging. • The sources are; large cities, billboards and advertising, nighttime sporting events and other nighttime entertainment. • Light pollution makes it impossible to see stars, nor with astronomical observation and personal enjoyment. If it is near residential areas, light pollution can destroy the quality of life for residents. Radioactive Pollution: • Radioactive pollution is rare but extremely damaging and even deadly when it happens. Because of the difficulty of reversing damage, there are strict government rules to control radioactive pollution. • The sources of radioactive pollution are; nuclear power plant, improper nuclear waste disposal, uranium mining operations. • These pollutions can cause; birth defects, cancer, sterilization, and other health problems for human and wildlife populations.

13. Impacts Of Photography To People And The Environment • There are a lot of ways for us to give a message to someone. One of them is photography. Photography makes an impact to the society. There are different kinds of photography such as advertisement, journalistic/editorial photography, documentary photography. Every kind of photography has their own reason. • It might be that advertisements can make or persuade people to buy a product they just newly released. Documentary photography can make people reflect on what is happening to the world. Imagine what would happen to this world if there were no cameras around, we would forget about our fun moments, we couldn’t remember what we had experienced. • What would happen if there were no pictures about disasters, things around the world, celebrities, what would happen? From what I have read, some photography may deliver some kind of message that really influence the society that can reflect people on what is happening in our world. It may make a deep connection with the viewer itself. Such as, a photo of people dying in a battlefield would make people feel sympathy and caring towards the people who sacrificed their life for the country and their lives.

15. Impacts Of Photography To People (Society) • Memory: • Photography changed the way we remember things. It has the ability to capture actual events, or memorable moments which is a positive thing we could get from photography. We now look at photographs as a confirmation of memory. • History: • Photography has played a large role in our historical tragedies. Historically, photographs provide a reality record on real events. It takes many pictures about the Civil War. That is why it can help us to get more knowledge about the history. • Science: • The ability of camera to record the world had made a really helpful tool in scientific researches. While nowadays, it is used to record evidence on field trips, showing portraits discovered animal species. How Photography Can Express What Is Happening To The Environment? • Photography is also another way of art, which is helpful to deliver a message although there are some other medias that can deliver messages more effectively. Such as video and others. • Some ways that we can deliver a message using photography is by using the right technique, the right angle and others that can make our photography perfect first. We also need to have the feeling when we see that pictures. • In environmental issues, we need to focus on what is happening around the environment and focus to make that more attractive than the others.
