Front lighting • Bright but flat effect – little shadow • Does not reveal lines or textures or detail • Used in flattering portraits – few flaws shown
Side lighting • Side light creates strong highlights and shadows • Reveals lines, texture, and details • Effective for creating depth • Creates a feeling of mystery, seriousness, drama
Backlighting Creates 2 effects: Halo effect: subject has a lit aura around it Silhouette: subject is a shadowed image
