  3. Overview of District • Located in northeast Tarrant county • Approximately 49 square miles • Student enrollment = 26,000 • 32 campuses • 2,000 employees

Technology Vision • Use of technology will assist in lifelong learning for students and staff • Provide educational technology to challenge and foster individual and group learning skills • Strive to find new technologies to enable our students to learn more • Provide training and support for employees to insure effective delivery of instruction

  6. How does a pilot make this happen?

Vicki • 5th Grade iPod Touch Math & Science • 6th Grade iPod Nano Social Studies • 8th Grade iPod Touch 8th grade Math and Algebra • Creating videos and using apps we were able to make students accountable for learning beyond the school day. • Students were able to work at their own level. • They were able to put their homework in their pocket and take it anywhere.

Spin the Story • Raised the interest in school • The explored every feature of the device • Saved tons of paper! • Able to keep track of notes for class and assignments when it was in one place. • Gone are the days of an armful of textbooks, it is all in one place. • Student using a mobile device for an academic purpose increased by 40% during the pilot process for 8th grade.

Teacher Point of View • Podcasts are one of the most powerful products that a student can create. • It requires students to research, synthesize the information, find visuals that supports the information, write a script, record the information and edit it.  • Retention is excellent, because students revisit the information several times in an interesting and non-repetitive manner.
