Overview • Kwantlen is proud to introduce a three-week field school in Ghana, which will provide students with a remarkable experience that focuses on: • Ghanaian culture • Global community development • Social justice and social responsibility • Global citizenship • When: June1th – July 25th, 2011
Eligibility Requirements • You need to: • Be nineteen years of age • Be a student in good standing • Have completed 45 credits at 1100-level or higher prior to departure. • You do not need to: • currently be a Kwantlen student to attend
Why Should You Go? • You will have a chance to experience Ghana in an intensive and in-depth way • You will gain valuable learning and work experience with an international scope • You can begin to make the world your classroom • You will have an opportunity to experience something extraordinary and enhance your academic experience with Kwantlen
Classes • Students register for six credits for this field school: • SOCI 4330 Global Community Service (6 credits) • Part of the course will be completed at Kwantlen and part on site in Ghana
Class Schedule • The first part of the course at Kwantlen is scheduled as follows: • First week Mon – Thurs • SOCI 4330: 10-12 • Second week Mon-Thurs • SOCI 4330: 10-12 • Third & Fourth weeks • Preparations: immunization, visa, etc.
Highlights • 2 week Internship with a non-government organization (NGO) • Hands-on experience • Cross-cultural classes • Travel and sightseeing opportunities throughout southern Ghana • Dance and music lessons
Accommodation • Aya Centre: (room shared by 2 students) • African Studies Chalets (room shared by 2 students) • University of Cape Coast Chalet: (room shared by 2 students) or • Anomabo Beach Resort (room shared by 2 students)
Costs • Program is estimated to cost $2800 not including flight and tuition and personal expenses. • A deposit of $250 will be required at the time of application and is non-refundable. • The outstanding amount owing will be due at the same time as the rest of your regular course fees. This date will be posted at: • http://www.kwantlen.ca/registration/dates.html • A minimum of 11 students will be required for the program to go ahead. If the program is cancelled due to attendance, your $250 will be refunded.
Application Process • Students will need to fill out an application form and hand it in to the International Liaison Office with their $250 deposit • Deposit cheques should be made out to Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a note: Ghana Field School. • Application form consists of general information page and a statement of interest. • Application deadline: • January 31st, 2010
