Step-by-Step • Open up the Hot Potatoes package • Click on JBC • Give your quiz a title • Type in the first question • Type in some possible multiple choice answers and some instructive feedback • Select the correct answer • Save as a master file • Export as a htm file and save
Select the Hot potatoes option from the Start: Programs: menu as shown
There are six programs to choose from: • JBC - Multiple choice • JQUIZ - Short answer quiz • JMIX - Jumbled sentence • JCross - Crosswords • Jmatch - Matched pairs • Jcloze - Gap fill exercise • Choose JBC.
Clicking on JBC brings up this screen. Type the title of your quiz here. Type your first question here
Type your possible answers in the boxes on this side of the screen And your feedback on this side
Remember to select the correct answer by clicking in the small box
A completed question screen could look like this: Use the feedback option to provide additional informationThen the students learn, even if they get the answer wrong Clicking here records that this is the correct answer
Clicking here moves you along to question 2. Type in the question, possible answers and feedback as before. Don’t forget to check off the correct answer
Click on the ‘Save As’ icon and name and save your file. This saves it as a Master document. You can then open this document and edit your quiz whenever you like.
Clicking on this icon saves your quiz in a form that can be used by the student. It’s actually an htm file.
Type in the file name for the .htm file, browse to the folder where you’d like to save it and click on Save.
It’s a good idea to give it the same name as the corresponding Master file so you can tell which .htm belongs to which .jbc
This is how the htm file will look. The student can select one of the options and it will tell them if they’re right or wrong and give them some feedback. That’s it!
