  1. Similarity in Shapes 9.3.3.6 Know and apply properties of congruent and similar figures to solve problems and logically justify results.

  2. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar? • Lesson Objective: IWBAT to recognize similar figures. • Similarity: 1. Corresponding Angles are congruent 2. Corresponding sides have a common ratio.

  3. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar? Similarity = same shape but different sizes Similar Rectangles have a common ratio between sides • The common ratio between the top rectangle and the bottom rectangle would be 2 because • The scale factor would then be ½ .

  4. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar? • Scale Factor- the number you multiply sides by to get from one shape to the other. • What would the scale factor here be?

  5. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar? • Every equilateral triangle is similar to every other equilateral triangle. • You are guaranteed to have a common ratio and corresponding angles are congruent.

  6. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar? Are both the rectangle and the pentagon similar?

  7. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar?

  8. Guiding Question: What does it mean for 2 things to be similar? • Assignment: Similarity Packet (Skip geometric mean question)
