  1. Soup ‘N Such Cafe CC.8.GSE.1 Properties of rotations, reflections, and translations… CC.8.GSE.2 Congruence (rotations, reflections, and translations)

  2. Soup ‘N Such Cafe It’s Tuesday noon at the Soups ‘N Such Café, When a customer walks in and ruins everyone’s day. It’s old Mr. McGruder with a frown on his face And he walks towards his table at a slow, steady pace. For old Mr. McGruder as everyone knows, Is fussy and picky from head to toe. “This drink is too hot or too cold or too spicy!!! My drink is too warm and my food is icy!!!” Everyone runs to hide to avoid the task Of being the one who has to ask… “May I take your order, PLEASE???” “I’ll take that soup,” he says with a grin, “but I want only certain letters put in.” “They must look the same after a slide, turn, AND flip. So find only those letters before I take a sip.”

  3. Soup ‘N Such Cafe Purpose:Find what letters to put in the soup using the letters in the bag on the table Directions: In your notebook, create a chart to indicate the letters that are the same after a slide, which letters are the same after a flip, and which letters are the same after a turn. Also, copy and answer the follow up discussion questions located on the next page

  4. Follow-up Discussion 1. What letters will Mr. McGruder have in his soup? 2. What letters meet all three criteria for Mr. McGruder’s Alphabet Soup?  3. How many letters “passed” test #1? Why did you get these results?  4. What happens to most of the letters when they are reflected? In other words, what does the letter look like? Extention: What if the letters were lower case letters instead of upper case or capital letters, what letters would Mr. McGruder have in his soup? Try this and write the lower case letters below that he would have in his soup.
