Red – OHI HOW TO USE ‘Mini’ OHI RED Revision v90+document revision: 1
overview • As with most plugins we have: • iPad view for participants • Plugin for Red that gathers the results and visualises these • A database (and admin) running on the Red Webserver
WARNING • OHI was the first plugin ever developed for Red it has a few issues: • Requires complete understanding on navigator and facilitator • Requires robust wifi connection as tolerance is much lower to failure (though shouldn’t crash anymore since v64+) • Has NO undo for PAX, so in problem – NEW IPAD! (depending on where they where – this WILL show their OLD data as well) • We do not consider is user friendly enough at this point without training by navigator and facilitator. It MUST be modified to incorporated all the OHI Online changes.
FACILITATOR FULLY CONTROLS ORDER • Unlike any other plugin the order, and what a participant can do at any given time is controlled from within Red, not the usual ‘navigator’ backend / browser. • This makes in some case much easier (can be done by single person). But requires you know what you are doing. • At this stage training with it is ESSENTIAL for a succesful workshop.
ICON On IPAD FOR PAX • Make sure the icon shows up when you need it using the control / activities interface (see Activities manual). • For reference the activites values are: • Name: *anything* • Label: Mini OHI • Icon: ../ohi/control_icon.png • URL: ../ohi • State: 1 (active) -> but this can easily be modified by the admin view
LEAVE ICON TO Active • You do not really to deactivate the OHI Icon for an event. • Because the navigator controls the flow when the OHI is not ‘running’ the PAX will see a ‘Please wait message’.
!!! HOW TO RUN !!! • The next set of slides are in a very particular order. • It will contain the flow of the OHI and what both you need to do in Red and what users see on the iPad.
1. EXPLAIN participants ON THE PROCESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Grade each ‘practice’ with ‘Never’, Sometimes, Always of your CURRENT situation • Order the practices you graded as ‘Always’ so you have a top 10 (or less) • We will then see as group in Red how our Practices work – or compare with you neighbour • Then we will select an archetype of your ideal FUTURE • We can then analyse the data using both archetypes and others in group on red • Finally we can share your personal results on the iPad • Any deviation on this pattern will lead to non pleasant results! (OHI Online doesn’t have any issues like this)
2. SHOW participants on what the will see on The Ipads • As with ANY iPad activity is important to show participants what the user interaction will be like. • Use the screenshots provided in the htdocs\ohi\manuals folder to prep the Red presentation so you can easily refer to this. • Numerous occasions I’ve seen Facilitators not explaining what is going to happen, with little understanding of the process – this is a a guarantee for failure and bad user experience!
3. Basic setup • Just before you need it : Add the plugin in Red : • World > Context menu > Insert > New OHI
4. Basic setup #2 • Select the plugin and press ‘Z’ so it is focused full screen. • OHI was designed with minimum resolution of 1280x720.
5. Basic setup – Prep Database • Contextmenu: • Plugin > OHI > Start new session. • This will make sure the data is clean and that the correct OHI will be presented to the Participants. • (no visual clue will be given to the navigator) • This is CRITICAL!
6. START PRACTICE CAPTURE • Press the ‘start’ Button. • This will allow participants to actually start ‘grading’ their practices. • You will see progress: • #number of complete top 10s / #number of iPads that started OHI.
6. PRACTICE CAPTURE ON IPAD • Each pax will get a randomized list of 34 practice they need to grade. • Pressing One of the 3 buttons will auto advance to the next. • They can press previous • !!! NO DATA IS BEING SENT TO DATABASE !!! (loss of wifi == loss of data)
6. PRACTICE CAPTURE DONE • After 34 they will get a ‘Thank You’ • When they press Next they will need to order their always list
6. ORDER TOP 10 FROM ALWAYS • Using their fingers then can touch the up/down arrow and drag n drop the always practices in a specific order. • Note only the TOP 10 will actually be graded
6. ORDER TOP 10 FROM ALWAYS Done • They must press Next at the bottom. • Only then will data be sent to the server!
7. ShowS TOP 10 In Order • The iPads will now show their top 10 once again (without any extra ones). • When pressing Next is will do nothing until the facilitator continues the process. • This often baffles the PAX (when not explained this would happen).
8. Analyse Practices in RED • When the number of finished pax (i.e. they have an ordered top 10) approaches the final number you can press ‘View’ to show the results. • Ideally you wait until ALL have finished (unless you had a faulty iPad) – this way you know the dataset is complete • Red WILL live update any ‘stragglers’ in all parts of the process! (making it real-time).
8. PRACTICES VIEW • The view works with a ‘filter’ approach, use the menu on the right to select your view: • Visualisations • Sorting • Tooltips • Dataset
9. Recommended PRACTICES VIEW • Frequency Columns, • Highest Frequency, • Always. • Gives a READABLE overview of number of votes for each practice using their top 10.
10. Recommended PRACTICES VIEW – Top 7 • Top Seven, • Highest Frequency, • Always. • Quick highlight.
11. Recommended PRACTICES VIEW – STRENGTH • Strength • Highest Strength • Strength Chart • Shows the frequency but taking into account the individual ordering of each practice. i.e. this is closest to the ‘truth’ • Blue intensity indicates the order (dark = top rated). • Moving over a bar shows distribution.
12. Introduce Archetypes to PAX • Remind participants on the next activity: picking a future archetype.
13. START ARCHETYPE CAPTURE • In Red press the ‘next‘ button in the practices view, • This will allow participants to continue the process on the iPads. • It will also show you a progress view as per practices.
14. START ARCHETYPE CAPTURE ON IPAD • Here is where things can get tricky: • If a user hadn’t correctly finished their practices their state is ‘undefined’. So make sure each PAX ideally has had their top 10 in ordered view. • If power has gone off on iPad, user simply needs to Go Activities > OHI . It should pickup where the iPad left off. • We strongly suggest to keep the iPad from turning off even when lid is closed. • Previously if a user did archetype data without Practices it would crash Red. At this point it should not crash, but the data will have a mixed set…
15. START ARCHETYPE CAPTURE ON IPAD • Either the iPad will be on Top 10 from before so they can just press ‘Next’ • Or • The iPad recovered previous data and will immediately show the Archetype selection
16. SELECT - NO UNDO! • The archetype view can show details for each archetype (although we strongly suggest you explain these before this activity). • But the same view also ‘Selects’ the FUTURE archetype. • THERE IS NO UNDO!!!
17. More info… • The ‘More…’ will show more information about a particular Archetype in a ‘card’ style.
18. SELECT ARCHETYPE • Pax then selects their archetype. • A confirmation is shown (but no previous) • The process once again stops here until the navigator continues the process in Red.
18. ANALYSE ARCHETYPES AND COMPARISONS • Once again, wait till you as many archetypes as there are users. • If a problem occurred you will have to continue. • Press ‘view’ to visualise
19. Archetypes View • Again a filter approach. • However there are very, very many views. • But you start off with the archetype view.
20. AGGREGATE ViewS • First go into the Aggregate view – All • This means you will use ALL participants as a single group. • As you can see this has it’s own menu.
21. RECOMMEND ViewS • Aggregate view – All • Focused Comparison • Ranking • Shows in green the current groups ‘OK’ practices for target archetype (change with dropdown box) • Red those that need improving
22. RECOMMEND ViewS • Aggregate view – All • Complete Comparison • Ranking • Shows the ‘gaps’ between ideal position of all practises between an archetype and the groups average • Use sort by to see best/worsts
23. Show individual Results on Ipad • Go back , by pressing the close cross, to the normal archetypes overview and press ‘Share’. Close aggregate sub view
24. Show individual Results on Ipad • Once the information is Shared the iPads will continue in the process (might need to press ‘Next’ again). • You will see a ‘Mark Loch’ comparison between your order and any archetype. • Use arrows to switch between archetypes. Archetype switch
25. Tapping a practice will highlight both • Tapping on either side will highlight where it should be versus your choice.
