What are Square Foot Gardens? • Square foot gardening is a system of gardening using square foot units of space for crops with different plants in each one. • It uses companion gardening and raised bed gardening.
What is companion planting? • Companion planting is packing various plants together without harming them. • Plants can nourish one another and control pests.
How to make a square foot garden • Divide a wooden box- like contraption of the size of your choice into square foot sections. • Fill it with soil. • Plant your plants/ crops in in the sections according to the format on the next slide. • Water as needed.
Large plants- 1 per square • Medium plants- 4 per square • Small plants- 9 per square • Very small plants- 16 per square • Under ground plants should go in a raised gardening bed
