Hydrothermal Vents By Blake Manor & Jorge Cadena Jr.
Ecosystem • Chemosynthesis is basically what keeps everyhting running. It produces the bacteria, which feeds the Amphipoda and Copepods. Larger organisms create a food chain from this • Without Chemosynthesis everything would crumble • Solar energy plays a very important and vital role in this ecosystem
2 types of hydrothermal vents are Black and White Smokers • Black smokers are a type of hydrothermal vent found on the seabed, usually in the abyssal and hadal zones. They appear as black chimney-like structures that emit a cloud of black material. • White smokers are vents that emit lighter-hued minerals, like barium, calcium, and silicon
Found along the Mid-Ocean Ridges • Volcanoes produce hydrothermal vents
Human Impact • There are mines that use the heat from hydrothermal vents 7,000 feet under the sea to make electricity. Its temperature is incredibly high, 750 degrees Fahrenheit.
Other….???? • Things Blake might know that I do not
