‘Climate Change Schools Project’ • Aims – Strategic & long-term aims • To ensure that climate change becomes a core part of North East education; • To enhance awareness of climate change and encourage citizenship skills; • To promote the delivery of climate change mitigation and adaptation plans by pupils and teachers in schools and local businesses; • To help place the North East as the UK’s most proactive region with regards to climate change action. • Project policy objectives • Include sustainable development principles and techniques in all aspects of the project; • Use best available science; • Develop informed and engaged citizens in the arena of climate change; • Apply a positive, proactive and pragmatic approach to climate change action.
‘Climate Change Schools Project’ • Aims of CCSPWG • Align/integrate the CCSP within existing frameworks/initiatives in order to help develop and implement a ‘standardised package’ of Climate Change resources and teacher professional development opportunities for all schools in all Local Authorities across the North East to: • embedClimate Change science and associated issues (e.g. mitigation and adaptation strategies) into the Key Stage 2 & Key Stage 3 curriculum; • develop a network of key ‘Climate Change Lead Schools’ across the North East that includes engaged, informed and confident teachers and students; • establish a working model for the North East that can be adapted and rolled-out to other regional centres in England.

‘Climate Change Schools Project’ • Aims of teacher Specialist Streams • Steer development of climate change modules for the Key Stage 2 & 3 curriculum; • subject-oriented &/or cross-curricular resources; • supported by clear guidelines; • Produce/collate a ‘standardised package’ for the CCSPWG to implement (c.f. ‘Climate Change Lead Schools’); • Investigate potential for other initiatives to deliver subject/curricular material.
