  2. PDF VERSION TO BE USED • PDF version to be used is 1.4 with the Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or higher. • Thus their will not be need of having addtional software to read the document. eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

FONTS TYPES TO BE USED • When the fonts are unavailable on user's machine, or their is any inconsistency in fonts used in PDF and fonts that are with user on his machine, the fonts gets subtituted. • Also it may happen that the font that are substituted can affect the document's appearance and structure. • In some cases it can affect the information conveyed in a document eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

San Serif: Adobe Sans Multiple Master Arial Bold Italic Arial Bold Arial Non Proportional: Courier Courier Bold Courier Bold Oblique Serif: Times New Roman Bold Times New Roman Italic Times New Roman Other: Symbol Zapf Dingbats PROBABLE SOLUTION TO QUOTED PROBLEMThe only and simple solution is to restrict the font to the below list: eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

FONTS SIZE/COLOR TO BE USED • Font size • Should range from 9-12 • For table the point size should be between 9-10 • Smaller point size should be avoided • For footnote the recommended point size is 10 • Font Color • Black is the recommended color • Blue cant be used as it is used for indicating Hyperlinks • Light colors do not give desired result while printed eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

SOLUTION TO QUOTED PROBLEM • Test the font size and the try for different color, and print each option, compare and decide. • Our Recommendations:: • Font size: 12 • Font color: Black • Font Type: Times New Roman • While using page for print, If A4 = Leave 3/4 inch at the left side of page. and of 3/8 at other sides (recommended) • If Landscape is set, than 3/4th inch at top will do well. eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

  7. PAGE NUMBER • The page no. of document and of PDF same. • The exception will occur when the document has more size and pages and split is necessary eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

SOME AVOIDS • PDF should be avoided to be created form scanning • File name must not include special characters like punctuation, underscore, non-alphanumeric (e.g. \,/,?,<,>,!,@,#,%,+,*,^) • If PDF is created by scanning the resolution should not be greater than 300dpi, as it will increase the size of document unnecessarily eCTD submissions: Guide to PDF

Some DO’s • The PDF created from word is recommended than created from the scanning • If the PDF is Scanned than the resolution should be kept 300dpi to keep balance between PDF size and the clarity of document • The use of CYMK colors is recommended • While compressing the PDF file, it is recommended to compress in zip or Plate Format.
