  4. Index Construction WEAI is made up of two sub indices Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) All range from zero to one; higher values = greater empowerment

  6. Who Is Empowered? A woman who has achieved ‘adequacy’ in 80% or more of the weighted indicators is empowered

Innovations in the Index • Captures empowerment directly: • Through primary survey data • Survey administered to females and males • Not through proxies – education, income etc. • Three ways to change it: • Empower women • Increase the adequacy among disempowered women • Increase gender parity

  8. Moving Forward After the Pilot • Focusing on implementation • Further validation • More analysis • Supporting three dissertation grants on WEAI-related research • Developing partnerships and collaboration
