Features • keyboard is full-size with keys just like the ones on MacBook. • includes backlit key illumination, making it easy to work in low-light settings • A built-in ambient light sensor automatically adjusts keyboard and display brightness for optimal visibility • oversize multi-touch trackpad with multi touch technology like that on the ipod and iphone.
Features Cont. • a USB 2.0 port, a headphone jack, and a micro-DVI port that supports DVI, VGA, composite, and S-video output. • 2GB of RAM built in • 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor • a built-in iSight camera and iChat software • Full 5 hr battery • next-generation 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
Features Cont. • MacBook Air does not need the optical drive; it is built for the wireless world. • rent movies wirelessly from the iTunes Store • Back up files wirelessly using Apple’s new Time Capsule • When you need to install software from a CD or DVD, it has new feature called Remote Disc that allows you to wirelessly use or “borrow” the optical drive of a Mac or PC in the vicinity.
How is it so thin? • Everything is wireless • To reduce size, Apple omitted certain features such as: • the built-in removable media drive • may purchase an external USB SuperDrive or use bundled Remote Disc • a security slot • an Ethernet port • USB-to-Ethernet adapter may be purchased separately • no Cardbus or ExpressCard slots • The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo chip, which reduced its size by 60%
Limitations • Lack optical drive • To install software you need to either purchase the $99 Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive, which connects via USB, or use the new Remote Disk feature. • Doesn’t include FireWire, Ethernet, multiple USB ports, audio input, and optical audio output • heat and space concerns cause the speed to be reduced (range: 1.2GHz to 2.2GHz) • heat and space concerns limit storage options • only single-platter, 1.8-inch hard drives fit • Uses an integrated battery that can’t be easily removed • Smaller size = More expensive
Valuable Business Applications • Makes business more convenient • Wireless applications • Makes transportation easy • Its newest programs provides great organization
