What is “Fishing in Schools?” • A nationwide program that teaches youth ages 11-18 how to fish in schools • Provides “in school” curriculum for teachers, grades 6 through 12. • Meets National Academic Standards in Language Arts, Science, Technology and Physical Education • Mimics the successful National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP)
How Does the Program Work? • Physical education teachers and program mentors are trained and certified to implement the program. • Teacher Trainings are held periodically throughout the year in various locations.
How does the curriculum work? • The “core” 10 day Foundation Curriculum teaches students about fish, water, insects, and much more as they learn casting and fishing fundamentals • It engages students using the unique CasTarget® system, which employs 3 different types of targets . . .
“Bulls Eye” CasTarget® • 19 Species offish…freshwater, saltwater, sea-run • 23Flies…dry, wet, nymph, streamer • “Bulls Eye”pattern…for fun, competitive scoring while improving accuracy, learning fish species and flies
Water Scene CasTarget® Pond/Lake Water Scene • Above & below water image…uses velcro “stickems” to learn about aquatic insects and flies • “Tic-tac-toe” pattern…is a fun, competitive game that improves casting & accuracy
